Private House

East Grinstead, West Sussex

Our client’s came to us for a large extension to their single storey bungalow.  Our clients were to reside within the ground floor area for the duration of the works.  Due to terrible weather and in order for there to be no delay, a temporary roof was erected over the area of the bungalow to be extended.

The roof was stripped of tiles which were set aside for re-use.  The entire roof structure was carefully taken down and cleared from site.  New floor joints were installed next to existing ceiling joists whilst ground floor ceilings were retained throughout the works.

The perimeter walls were built up by 900mm; a new roof constructed over the bungalow and in addition dormers were constructed as detailed by the architects design.

A substantial number of roof timbers were left exposed in the finished project which involved careful thought and consideration when erecting the new roof.

The roof was retiled using salvaged tiles and where the external walls were increased in height they were clad in tile hanging.

Bedrooms and en-suites were formed within the new first floor area.  A new staircase was installed to access this and electrics and central heating were extended to these areas.

The floor area has increased considerably and for feature purposes a large amount of construction framework has remained exposed.
